The establishment of this association coincides with the Pancasila Sanctity Day.AGTI Chairperson Anne Patricia Sutanto explained that the association was formed out of a desire to build a strong, collaborative, and globally competitive ecosystem. The selection of October 1 as the establishment date of AGTI symbolizes the association’s commitment to the values of the Pancasila Economy, namely cooperation, self-reliance, and love for domestic products. “We want to prove that the sanctity of Pancasila can also be realized in the national textile and garment industry. The Pancasila Economy means real love for Indonesia, not something forced,” said Anne during the AGTI socialization in Solo City, Central Java, on Sunday, October 26, 2025. Since its declaration, AGTI has conducted socialization activities in Jabodetabek (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi), Banten, Semarang, Yogyakarta, and Solo. The next agenda will be held in Bandung on November 3, 2025, to expand the network and recruit new members from various industrial sectors.Anne stated that AGTI will dedicate 70 percent of its efforts to business collaboration, business networks, and increasing the capacity of industry players. The association encompasses the entire textile supply chain, from upstream to downstream, including the retail sector, shoes, carpets, and other derivative products through cross-association cooperation, such as the Indonesian Retail Entrepreneurs Association (Aprindo) and the Indonesian Furniture & Handicraft Industry Association (Asmindo).”We want local brands to be on par with imported brands, not only in terms of location but also in quality. With Indonesian local wisdom, we can prove that national products can compete in the global market,” she said.Regarding national policies, AGTI is prepared to contribute to the discussion of the draft law on clothing and push for the textile industry to be included in national strategic projects (PSNs). Anne believes that this will open up support across ministries, from Industry, Trade, Investment, to Bank Indonesia and the Financial Services Authority (OJK).AGTI has also highlighted the issue of the illegal import of secondhand clothing. Anne stated that AGTI is urging the government to take firm action against those involved in the illegal import of used clothing.”The Trade Ministerial Regulation clearly prohibits the import of second-hand clothing. If it has already entered the country, traders must be honest about its source. If they admit it, they should pay a fine, but if not, they should be processed according to the law because there is a Criminal Code provision for this,” she said.Anne emphasized AGTI’s vision of building a national textile and garment industry that is independent, competitive, and has a strong character. AGTI is also expected to inspire businesses, whether small, medium, or large, to collaborate and optimize their share of the local market, which has been neglected due to a lack of unity.Editor’s Choice: The Textile Industry Caught in the MiddleClick here to get the latest news updates from Tempo on Google News Indonesian Garment and Textile Association Officially Established Reporter Septia Ryanthie October 27, 2025 | 03:50 pm TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Several players in the national garment and textile industry have formed the Indonesian Garment and Textile Association (AGTI), which was officially launched on October 1, 2025.
