The plant has a capacity of 55 megawatts (MW) and has been in operation since the end of June 2025.”The inauguration will be conducted directly by the President. I have requested his time, possibly by the end of this month or at the latest, next month,” said Bahlil at the Indonesia International Geothermal Convention & Exhibition at the JCC Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday, September 17, 2025. PLTP Lumut Balai Unit II officially entered the commercial operation date (COD) phase on June 30, 2025. The plant is capable of producing electricity above its installed capacity, at around 56 MW. The plant is operated by PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk. (PGE). PGE completed the 72-hour Unit Rated Capacity (URC) test and obtained the Operating Safety Certificate (SLO) on June 29, 2025. As a result, the plant can now operate at full and consistent capacity.PGE President Director Julfi Hadi stated that the operation of PLTP Lumut Balai Unit II is a tangible step to strengthen the national clean energy supply. “This is part of PGE’s long-term commitment to providing reliable and sustainable geothermal energy,” Julfi said in a written statement on Wednesday, July 2, 2025.Julfi mentioned that the additional capacity also brings PGE closer to its target of an independent installed capacity of 1 gigawatt (GW) within the next 2-3 years. He stressed that this unit will support the target of 76 percent New Renewable Energy in the 2025-2034 period.”In the future, we are optimistic that we can support the acceleration of the national geothermal capacity increase target of 5.2 GW,” he said.In addition to Lumut Balai Unit II, PGE is also developing the 110 MW Hululais Unit 1 and 2 in Bengkulu, a cogeneration project with a total capacity of 230 MW, and new field exploration of the 55 MW PLTP Gunung Tiga in Lampung. To date, PGE manages an installed capacity of 727.5 MW from six operating areas, representing about 70 percent of the total national geothermal capacity of 1,932.5 MW across 15 Geothermal Working Areas (WKP).Rafiif Nur Tahta Bagaskara contributed to the reportEditor’s Choice: Indonesia’s Geothermal Power Capacity Rises to 2.71 GWClick here to get the latest news updates from Tempo on Google News Prabowo to Launch Geothermal Power Plant in Sumatra’s Muara Enim Reporter Nandito Putra September 17, 2025 | 11:37 pm TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia stated that President Prabowo Subianto will soon inaugurate the Unit II Lumut Balai Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP) in Muara Enim, South Sumatra.
