Various groups criticized the police for alleged abuse of authority in handling the protests.The demonstrations tragically resulted in ten deaths, including online ride-hailing driver Affan Kurniawan, who was crushed by a Mobile Brigade tactical vehicle on Pejompongan Street, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, on Thursday, August 28, 2025.In response to figures from the National Conscience Movement (GNB), President Prabowo had previously expressed his willingness to reform the National Police and announced plans to establish the Commission.Before the President’s formal move, National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo preemptively formed the Police Reform Transformation Team on September 17, 2025, via National Police Chief Decree Number Sprin/2749/IX/2025.
